Horizon Zero Dawn
Developer: Guerilla Games
Platform: PS4, PC
For anyone who enjoyed exploring a beautiful and sprawling landscape, Horizon Zero Dawn is very much a game like Ghost of Tsushima in that regard. Inclusive of this, Horizon Forbidden West and Horizon Zero Dawn will deliver no end of joy for open-world fans as you revel within battles against gigantic robo-dinosaurs.

To be frank, Horizon Zero Dawn is the culmination of all the best bits and pieces of the past games of its kind. While a unique experience by it’s own right, Horizon Zero Dawn encapsulates the very best of open world adventures into a single epic game. The combat and story are also excellent, so why not jump into Aloy’s latest adventure and lose yourself in a mysterious world for a hundred hours.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Developer: CD Projekt Red
Platform: PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC
Although the Witcher, Geralt is far from being a samurai-like Jin Sakai, this game is highly similar to Ghost of Tsushima with regards to combat and open-world exploration.
Plus, the success of both of these titles makes them more similar than what’s on the outside. If you enjoyed the stellar combat system and the gorgeous map GOT has to offer, The Witcher 3 is something you should definitely play next—if you haven’t already.
Winner: Best RPG Games (Xbox & Series X)
We find the Witcher to be a more challenging game because of the variety of monsters you have to face, but some of the sword-wielding elements are quite similar, especially if you mix the blade combat with Geralt’s other abilities. It is quite similar to mixing Jin Sakai’s arsenal of tools, bombs, and other combat moves.
If you’re looking for games like Ghost of Tsushima that are expansive, loaded with combat and tell a great storyline then The Witcher 3 should definitely be added to your list. In addition, The Witcher 3 takes the crown as one of the best games like Ghost of Tsushima for Switch players too!
Onimusha Series
Developer: Capcom
Platform: Xbox, Playstation, PC
The Onimusha series is just like Ghost of Tsushima due to its gorgeous landscape. Which, through graphics alone, makes it a must-have for your collection. It might not be as popular as other games on the list. And honestly, you probably never even heard of it, but the Onimusha Series delivers countless hours of fun.
Similarly to Ghost of Tsushima, the story is also set in Japan. However, it has more supernatural elements to it—unlike GOT, this game has more mystical elements throughout the story. That said, the similarities between GOT and The Onimusha Series are uncanny.
Both games feature puzzle-solving and surprisingly, a ton of exploration. The melee-focused hack and slash combat is similar to GOT and although some people may not be too excited by the outdated graphics, for it’s time, the Onimusha Series is still a fun game with a good story.
Elden Ring
Developer: FromSoftware
Platform: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC
We don’t even know where you have been if you have not heard about Elden Ring. But, if you haven’t, let’s just say it’s an instant classic.
If you played Ghost of Tsushima religiously, you’re going to love the challenge of playing Elden Ring. It shares the same open-world experience but you should expect this game to be a lot more taxing on your brain. Think Dark Souls meets Skyrim meets Ghost of Tsushima.

Aside from its beautiful design, there is so much to do in the world of Elden Ring. Players who love to explore and leave no stone unturned will definitely pack more than 100 hours during their first playthrough—and that says a lot about an action RPG.
The best part about this game (that we secretly wanted GOT to have) is the expansive player building. You can build a character’s abilities, and player archetype, and find tons of hidden items and weapons as you explore the vast map.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Developer: FromSoftware
Platform: PS5, Xbox One, PC
If you are a fan of Ghost of Tsushima’s samurai elements and the aesthetics of the rising sun map—Sekiro is a game you wouldn’t want to miss. In fact, it’s the closest game to Ghost of Tsushima on this list given the heritage. However, we have to say that this game definitely has Dark Souls Level difficulty.
But, once you get the hang of it, it’s all about how you time your strikes—which is highly similar to Stand-Offs in Ghost of Tsushima. If you are curios whether Sekiro is better than Ghost of Tsushima, we would have to say this. Overall, Sekiro is better for combat but Ghost of Tsushima is more accessible for the casual gamer and has a better storyline.
If you want to experience a game with similar aesthetics to GOT, but with a significantly higher level of difficulty—Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is the game for you.
As one of the best games like Ghost of Tsushima for Xbox consoles too, get ready to sink days into this incredible title.
Note: This game is not for the faint of heart.
Batman: Arkham City
Developer: Rocksteady
Platform: PC, PS4, Xbox One
Hear us out, Batman: Arkham City has more similarities to Ghost of Tsushima than you think. For starters, besides open-world exploration, both games are highly similar in terms of combat!
For example, when you are surrounded by enemies, Batman uses tools just like Jin to get the job done. Secondly, Batman knows he cannot finish his goals alone and so gathers a team for the endgame; just like Jin.
Okay, we lied. That’s about all there is similar and even that’s a stretch! But, we assure you that Batman is an incredible game that you just simply must have to play. For many years now it’s been a standout on the Xbox game pass and you can most likely pick it up for an absolute steal!
Marvel Spiderman Miles Morales
Developer: Insomniac Games
Platform: PS4, PS5
Possibly the furthest title from being anything like Ghost of Tsushima, yet a grippingly entertaining open-world adventure nonetheless, enter your friendly neighbourhood Spiderman.
If you’re just a complete fan of open-world games then this title is not one to be missed. After all, who does not love swinging from skyscraper to skyscraper across Manhattan? What’s more, Sony has recently released a bundle pack that includes the original Spiderman game from 2018 and also the sequel Miles Morales. So now, you can get 2 epic titles for a complete steal!

Similarly to Ghost of Tsushima, the studio delivered a fast and fluid action game in Marvel’s Spider-Man. Capturing the essence of both the MCU movie universe and the comic books in which the character was born, the game is fun, thrilling, and unexpectedly dramatic. Explore, fight, and progress as you want to in this open-world adventure.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Developer: Rockstar Games
Platform: PS4, Xbox One, PC
Honestly, Red Dead Redemption 2 is not anything like Ghost of Tsushima other than an open-world map. However, it’s one of the best games to have emerged this century and if you like open-world titles then you will absolutely love Arthur Morgan and his troubles.
Similarly to Ghost of Tsushima, Red Dead Redemption 2 is also set in the past, but not that too far back. RDR2 is set in the Wild West before the 1900s. Although most of the map is fictional, they are similar to real locations—kind of like GTA games (made by the same developer).
Red Dead Redemption 2 follows the story of Arthur Morgan, a cowboy, an outlaw, and a friend. It is a prequel to Red Dead Redemption, and the story leads up to the events of the first game. Although the open-world elements are highly similar to GOT, there are a lot of differences in terms of world-building and combat.
While you might enjoy the fantastic combat system in GOT, there is no assurance that you will enjoy fighting and killing people with guns—but we highly doubt that.
Infamous: The Second Son
Developer: Sucker Punch
Platform: PS4
With the same developer as Ghost of Tsushima, you already know that Infamous: The Second Son will share a bunch of similarities with Ghost of Tsushima. For starters, both games comprise fluid combat systems and open map exploration with plenty of side activities to complete.
Although Infamous: The Second Son is not one of those games like Ghost of Tsushima that you would immediately recognise, the entire feel of the game is very akin to everything you enjoyed most about GOT.
With regards to storyline, characters and fighting abilities, these two games could not be more different. However, Infamous: The Second Son is definitely one for the books if you haven’t played it yet. Get onto it before they have a third son, that’s all we’ll say!
Dishonored 2
Developer: Arkane Studios
Platform: PS4, PC, Xbox One
If you are looking for games like Ghost of Tsushima that are all about slicing and dicing enemies, you might want to play Dishonored 2. Just like Ghost of Tsushima, Dishonored 2 is filled with rich environments with tons of ways to kill enemies. In fact, there are even more ways to slay your foe than what you can find within Ghost of Tsushima.
However, the most notable thing about Dishonored games is their excellent replayability and character progress. That is the one thing we loved about Ghost of Tsushima was the replayability and varied storylines. So, when we found out that Dishonored developers had a similar idea, we immediately fell in love.
Frankly, the only thing that is dishonourable about Dishonored is that you have not played it yet. So, what are you waiting for!
Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey
Developer: Ubisoft
Platform: PS4, PC, Xbox One
Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey is another excellent Assassin’s Creed title with a much larger world for exploration. It might not be very similar to Ghost of Tsushima in terms of its story, but it is very interesting in it its own way—and we are pretty sure you would love it if you enjoyed playing GOT.
However, we would classify Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey as a game like Ghost of Tsushima in the sense that when you think about it, they are both open-world with incredible stealth elements and a superb storyline. In fact, Ghost of Tsushima is pretty much Assassin’s Creed set within 13th century Japan!
We probably don’t need to explain much about Assassin’s Creed, however, just like most AC games, Odyssey features a gorgeous map with tons of side quests and collectables. In Odyssey, the map comes with sandy beaches, statues of Greek gods, and massive mountain ranges that feel very GOT-like.
Yakuza 0
Developer: Ubisoft
Platform: PS3, PS4, PC, Xbox One
In terms of gameplay, Yakuza 0 and Ghost of Tsushima couldn’t be any different from one another. However, we have included it in the list because both games share the same vibe in terms of their heartwarming storylines. Not to mention that Yakuza 0 is set within Japan’s bubble era; a period of extremely high property prices in Japan during the second half of the 1980s.
It’s a modern-day Japan centuries after Ghost of Tsushima.
Just like GOT, completing missions and side quests feels like watching a Japanese movie, especially when the cut scenes start to roll. So, if you are not looking solely for an open-world Samurai slaying game but would like to stick closely to historic Japanese culture, give Yakuza 0 a whirl.
The Final Word
When hunting for other games like Ghost of Tsushima we kept in mind that not every game is going to be your stereotypical Samurai open-world adventure. We wanted to provide you with a mixture of the best open-world titles, incredible storylines and of course a game or two where you can literally just carve up your enemy into different shapes.
So, keep in mind having now read the list above that not every game needs to be the exact same thing as your favourite game for you to like them. Whether it shares the same combat system, gameplay, or well-written narratives—all games are slightly different.
Out of the all the games like Ghost of Tsushima, we would have to say that Sekiro is most closely linked. Not only for it’s Samurai combat nature but also just the overall feel of the game. However, like we said before, there’s just nothing quite like Ghost of Tsushima on the market right now!
